Faded Shards of Light CD; Independently produced 2000.

"Faded Shards of Light" is Dichroic Mirror's latest release, an exploration of the range and depth of human emotions and musical boundaries. The duet of Michael Gougis and Eileen Bowe - joined by Stone 588 vocalist and lyricist Terri Kennedy on backing vocals - push their musical ideas further on this CD, seeking always the limits of their songwriting and lyrical craft. As always, the swirling, edgy guitars are prominent, particularly in the uptempo songs such as "The Lottery," "Vanished Calm," "Essence Immortal" (featured on the Cleopatra compilation "Dracula: King of Vampires") and especially "Knifewind." However, "Faded Shards of Light" also finds Dichroic Mirror exploring orchestral movements in "Tears of a Rose" and "Non Sine Numie," minimalist acoustic songs such as "Desert's Remains" and dirges such as "Her Name." This disc also showcases the duet's increasing vocal sophistication, with Michael, Eileen and Terri's voices complementing each other and the songs themselves featuring increasingly elaborate vocal arrangements. The CD cover itself, inspired by a Gustav Klimt painting, is a showcase for Eileen's talents with a brush, as she painted the cover artwork.
